CST 300 - Week 4 - Writing With Purpose

 Part One

One of my ultimate goals with the CS Online Program is to have a better foundational understanding of computer science concepts. I have years of experience building applications at scale, but am excited to learn more about key concepts. Specifically CST 370 and being able to better understand algorithmic efficiency and complexity. Being able to apply those concepts to commonly used data structures or database queries will help me feel more confident in decisions I am making at work.

With a CS Degree in hand, I plan to continue my education and go for an MBA. This should help to round out my business acumen and help me land the leadership roles I’d like to obtain in the future.

Part Two

My career goal is to be a Director Level leader at a Fortune 500 company. Simple right? Truly I believe this program, along with an MBA will help me qualify for this. I already have the requisite experience, so the education is the last piece!

Part Three

Hard to say, I feel as if I took it now I could likely get a passing score. I have a large amount of knowledge in the field.

That said, I would like to aim for a 90% percentile on the test. According to the page Algorithms and Computational Thinking questions make up 25% of the test, and that is an area I am hoping CS Online helps me to flesh out.

Part Four

This week was fun, working on the Ethics Essay Outline was an interesting exercise. With the topic I’ve chosen, Microtransactions in video games, much of the research sources are produced by world governments. It’s been fascinating to see how different countries are regulating the same issue. This kind of global technological and ethics issue, pertaining to the video game industry is pretty interesting overall. Especially knowing how wildly profitable this model shift has been for the industry as a whole.

  1. I really respect how focused and ambitious your goals are—moving toward a Director-level leadership role at a Fortune 500 company is huge, and it sounds like you already have the industry experience to back it up. Pairing the CS degree with an MBA is a smart move for bridging the gap between technical and business leadership.

I also found it inspiring that even with your experience building applications at scale, you’re still eager to deepen your foundational understanding. I’m looking forward to CST 370 too—it’s great to know others are also targeting algorithmic efficiency as an area of growth. That kind of mindset—continually improving even when you’ve already accomplished a lot—is something I aspire to as well.

Best of luck aiming for that 90th percentile on the ETS test—you’re definitely setting the bar high in the best way possible!
